A charming route
The road to the monastery is particularly picturesque. The alley leading to the monastic complex is guarded by centuries-old trees and forest, and the sun's rays penetrate through the leaves of the trees on Dealul Viei. This landscape creates an atmosphere of tranquility and contemplation.
History of Rohia Monastery
The founding of this place of worship has an emotional story. Father Nicolae Gherman, an Orthodox priest from the village of Rohia, built the monastery in memory of his daughter, Anuta, who passed to God at only 10 years old, in November 1922. In a dream, the child asked her father to build a "house for the Mother of God" on Dealul Vei. After several divine confirmations, the father decided to follow this prompting and build the monastery.
The construction of the "Sfânta Ana" Monastery
Construction began in 1923, in a clearing called "La stejarul lui Pintea", 7 kilometers from Târgu Lăpuș. Despite many difficulties, with the support of the faithful, in just two years a church and a monastic house were built. The monastery was consecrated in 1926, on the feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God, which also became its patron saint.
Heritage of the Monastery Over the years, the monastery has developed under the guidance of dedicated abbots, accumulating a rich heritage. It includes:
