Borșa: A Unique Tourist Destination in Maramureș
Location:
Borșa is located in the extreme north of Romania, in the northeastern part of Maramureș county, at an altitude of approximately 800 m. Located only 10 km from the Prislop Pass, Borșa borders Ukraine to the north, Suceava to the east, Bistrița county- Năsăud to the south and Moisei commune to the west.
Natural Touristic Attractions
Borșa, located at the foot of the Rodna Mountains, boasts rivers with clean and fast waters, populated by trout. These include:
- Viseu River
- Cisla River
- Fountain River
- Cercanelul River
- The length of the settlement, which stretches 52 km along the main road, makes it one of the longest settlements in the country.
Mountain Landscapes and Glacial Lakes
The mountainous relief of Borşa attracts thousands of tourists in the winter season, with steep slopes and large differences in altitude. The area is surrounded by three mountain formations: the Rodnei Mountains, the Maramureșului Mountains and the Ţibau Mountains. The most famous glacial lakes in the area include:

- Impressive Waterfalls
- The Izvorul Cailor waterfall, the largest in Romania, is at an altitude of 1300 m and has a height of approximately 90 m, forming in steps on a limestone cliff.

Cultural Attractions
Pietroasa Monastery is located 5 km from the center of Borșa, on a plateau, near the top of Pietroasa Mountain. Established in 2007, the monastery is dedicated to the "Beheading of Saint John the Baptist" and is a place of pilgrimage for believers.
Băile Borșa offers thermal mineral waters, used in treatments for various conditions, including digestive and musculoskeletal ones.
Heritage Churches
Do not miss visiting the fifth Greek-Catholic wooden church, built in 1718, and the Roman-Catholic church "St. Francis of Assisi", erected in 1925.
