Christmas in Maramures

It is an event of traditions, which takes place in Baia Mare, more precisely in the County Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art, in the alleys of the Village Museum since 2009, with prominent guests: local and county authorities, church leaders, folklore ensembles, groups of carolers, local and national television stations broadcasting from the scene.

The activities revolve around preparations for Christmas: preparing freshly butchered pork products, welcoming carolers with apples, nuts, cake and coleslaw, as well as with fast food. Also here there is the re-enactment of winter customs such as Viflaimul, Irozii, Capra, Stella, Brondoșii.

All ethnographic areas of Maramureș county are represented in the event, through the participation of town halls from different communes and householders from Maramureș villages. The organizers look forward to welcoming tourists with the hospitality that is typical of our area, to feel together the magical atmosphere of Christmas, lived with the soul as the people of these places used to live it.
