Bârsana Monastery dates back to 1390, with the first mention in documents relating to the Dragoș family’s estate. Through the years, it has been referenced in various property deeds, with significant mentions between 1408 and 1480, the last of which cites Bartolomeu Dragfi, the Voivode of Transylvania. The original wooden church was constructed in 1711, a tribute to God after surviving the previous year’s plague.

In 1993, work began on the new monastic complex, which today includes the following:
